We bring you through the
project from beginning to end.
Design Phase:
SPACE PLANNING.
A strong
design starts with an understanding of how spaces connect. Starting with
your goals, we create scenarios of how you will use the space and move
comfortably from one area to the next. Site constraints and layout help to
dictate how we will create the different ‘rooms’ of your exterior space.
HARDSCAPE DESIGN.
Patios, arbors, walls, kitchens and kitchens
are examples of design elements that help to define the exterior spaces and
make the ‘rooms’. These elements are the immovable ‘furnishings’ that
enhance the use and beauty of your exterior.
SOFTSCAPE DESIGN.
Trees,
shrubs, groundcover and vines enhance the overall outdoor sensibility of the
exterior space. Softscapes work to underscore the goals of the space flow
by creating living boundaries, ceilings and focal points. While hardscapes
remain through time, softscapes change from year to year, underscoring the
importance of strong botanical knowledge.
WATER SHAPES DESIGN.
Incorporating a pool, fountain or pond can address a variety of goals from
white noise to a focal point to a place to cool off in summer. Often, a
‘pool guy’ installs the watershape with no thought to style, space flow, or
usability in relation to other elements. We design the watershape as part
of the overall exterior design, seamlessly blending this element into the
aestethic and functionality of the overall outdoor living space to create an
integrated whole.
STYLE DETAIL PLANNING.
Planning
for art, furniture and finishings during the design phase is important to
the overall success of your project. Ensuring proper dimensions, style
compatibility and location should never be an afterthought, but a part of
the overall design process.
NIGHTSCAPES DESIGN.
The design
of low voltage lighting serves to extend the use of the exterior into
the evening, enhancing the beauty and functionality of the outdoors.
Well-placed illumination adds a new dimension to your space, highlighting
focal points, enhancing safety and creating a moonlit effect.
Construction Phase.
Bidding
& Contractor Selection.
Once the
final exterior plan is complete, I will refer you to one or more licensed
contractors to obtain bids. In a consulting role, I will be available to
assist you in this process by meeting with them to review the scope of the
project, answer questions and offer clarifications. If desired, I will
help you to request, accumulate and analyze/evaluate landscape contractor
bids to perform the actual construction and installation of the design;
however, I do not participate in the negotiation of the terms and
conditions of any agreement.
Site Observation.
Because
designs evolve during the installation, I recommend my ongoing involvement
during this phase. This involves periodic visits to monitor the
installation as well as answering client/contractor questions and
participating in any design decisions or changes.
Plant Procurement and Placement.
To ensure excellent quality for the client and to maintain control of any
plant substitutions, I purchase and guide the placement of all softscapes
during installation. I will purchase plant material on your behalf.
style detail PROCUREMENT/PURCHASES.
Based on the decisions we have made
together during the design process, I will purchase agreed upon art,
furniture and finishings for the exterior space. If desired, I will also
guide the delivery and installation f these purchases.
Final Walk-through Upon Completion.
I will
walk through the exterior spaces with you and the contractors to create a
punchlist of to be completed items at the end of the installation.
Design Reviews.
post installation visits.
I
am available for post installation visits to review the overall health of
the exterior, answer any questions you may have, and troubleshoot problems,
if any.
