Space
to Grow
This young couple brought
together their 'dream team' to build their new home. A young,
working duo with three small boys, they envisioned a space for
casual entertaining, play and intimate family dining. Torn between the
images of countryside France and tropical Jamaica, we integrated the
sensibilities into an overall, cohesive vision.
Arriving in a bamboo laden grove and a
1950s house, the renovation was a total rebuild of the house and landscape.
The
architect ensured ample access and views to the outside through glass doors
& windows. I used these opportunities to create visual vignettes to
draw people outside to sit, eat and play. A large stone patio provides
ample space for large gatherings while a smaller, more intimate patio
provides outdoor dining off the kitchen. A retaining wall doubles as
banquette seating for the family. Rich, Mediterranean hues of magenta,
grays and lavenders serve as a foundation for occasional pops of hot colors.
By working
in step with the house construction and design, we were able to create a
truly special home for our client.
